Course Description
The process of digital storytelling enables students to tell their stories with a compelling and competitive voice. This course will continue where Movie Maker 1 – The Basics left off. In Movie Maker 2 - Beyond the Basics, we will revisit topics that participants feel they would like a refresher on or further support with. We will go into more depth on the use of music, voice over narrations, more advanced editing tools and more. Interested participants can learn about creating simple animations with Movie Maker as well. Time will be spent examining the 7 elements of digital storytelling - 1. Point of View, 2. A Dramatic Question, 3. Emotional Content, 4. The Gift of your Voice, 5.The Power of the Soundtrack, 6. Economy, 7. Pacing. Teachers will have time to create their own digital story.
Preparation
Participants must come prepared with the following:
- Choose a personal or curricular topic that you feel strongly about
- Gather 5-10 images that convey meaning on this topic and save them to your computer. You may include still images, scanned images, and videos
- Find a piece of music that connects with your topic and bring that with you or save it to your computer prior to the class.
- Think about the 7 Elements of Digital Storytelling above and begin to collect some ideas on how you can employ them in your digital story.
